    Business Mauritius and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday, 21 February 2022, during a virtual event. This protocol aims at establishing exchanges of expertise and enhancing business opportunities between Mauritius and the Pacific Islands. Mauritius thus becomes the first African country to sign such an agreement with the PIF Secretariat. This collaboration brings together the Pacific private sector – businesses, industry and employer organisations – and Business Mauritius, the peak body representing over 1200 companies in Mauritius. Sharing lessons and best-practice is part of South-South cooperation and strengthening Small Islands Developing States partnerships, particularly for post-COVID economic recovery. Read more:

  • OACPS Business Forum

    The OACPS Business Forum was officially launched on 21 January 2022 during a virtual meeting organized by the OACPS Secretariat with technical support of Business ACP. Mr Kevin Ramkaloan, CEO of Business Mauritius was appointed to the board of directors. This Business Forum is one of the five “Subsidiary and Consultative Organs” foreseen under the Georgetown Agreement, with 3 main objectives:

    1. Promoting dialogue and collaboration between OACPS Governments, Regional Integration Institutions and the private sector at national, regional and continental levels within and between the 6 OACPS regions;
    2. Contributing to the formulation and implementation of private sector development policies; and
    3. Promoting knowledge sharing and information dissemination on private sector development issues, including the exchange of best practices between and within the 6 OACPS regions.

    Ebène, samedi 3 aout 2019 – Il a été noté que certains médias ont relayé que Business Mauritius serait apparemment satisfait que des consultations aient été tenues pour discuter du Workers Rights Bill.  Le Président et membres partenaires de Business Mauritius voudraient rétablir que, s’il est vrai qu’une réunion a effectivement été tenue au Ministère du Travail, cela n’équivaut pas aux consultations et au véritable travail technique qui doit se faire avant la promulgation d’un texte de loi.  Ceci est d’autant plus vrai que cette loi pourrait avoir des conséquences graves sur la compétitivité de Maurice et pour la pérennité de beaucoup d’entreprises locales.

    The National Pensions Act provides for the payment of contributions by employers and employees subject to minimum and maximum insurable salaries.  The floors and ceiling have been revised with effect from 1 July 2019.

    The National Savings Fund Act 1995 provides for the payment of a lump sum to every employee on his or her retirement age or earlier upon his or her death.  Employers contribute to the Fund at the rate of 2.5% subject to a ceiling.  As from 1 July 2019, the ceiling has been revised.
