Industrial Relations department

We have a fully-fledged Industrial Relations department that can cater for all the Industrial Relations & Human Resource Management needs of our members, in terms of advice, assistance, support and access to legislation and documentation..

At national level, we contribute to the development of a conducive legal and policy environment for a labour legislation regime that promotes competitiveness and flexibility.

The Association also promotes good industrial relations and human resource practices and fairness in labour management relations in line with our Code of Practice for Enterprise in Mauritius.

    • Provision of advice, assistance on labour legislation and industrial relations laws
    • Assistance in vetting contracts of employment, employee handbooks, procedural and collective agreements
    • Advocacy and promotion of member’s interests on sensitive IR & HRM issues and negotiating to promote them
    • Involvement in collective bargaining
    • In-house visits and enterprise-level specific interventions
    • Assistance to members in their collective bargaining process
    • Dissemination and promotion of IR & HRM good practices
    • Handling of cases of employment of expatriates
    • Assistance and support in dealing with inspections and inquiries carried out by the Enforcement Branch of the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment & Training
    • Organisation of training in industrial relations and HR and including in-house programmes and tailor-made workshops

IR – HR FORUM

The Forum is a professional body that brings together leading IR – HR specialists and practitioners from all sizes of enterprises, industries and sectors with a view to sharing their experiences, disseminating good practices and promoting industrial harmony and peace.

    Members meet at regular intervals to participate in activities such as:

    • Conferences / Workshops /Seminars / Talks
    • Discussion of landmark Supreme Court & Industrial Court cases in the field of Industrial Relations, Employment Law
    • Visit to enterprises as part of a strategy to foster learning and sharing of experience
    • Participation in specialised ad hoc committees

    Representatives on Boards and Committees as representatives of employers and nominees of Business Mauritius.

Occupational Health & Safety

A safe working environment is essential for the welfare of employees, productivity and performance of enterprises. It is in the interest of employers to pay attention to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), as they are legally responsible for the safety and health of their employees as long as they are in their working environment.

Rapid changes in work systems and technologies do have an impact on OSH.

    • Advisory service in OSH
    • Ensure that members observe statutory provisions concerning safety and health and implement good practices in the OSH field
    • Keep abreast of any change in the OSH fields and help members anticipate change and implement policies accordingly
    • Collect and analyse all information, statistics and distribute same to members in liaison with the “Centre Information Securité” (CIS) of the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment and Training
    • Encourage members to participate in OSH activities, training programmes, awareness campaign including
    • HIV/AIDS and substance abuse
